Vyom Vishalbhai Soni: The Artist Who Paints Beyond Boundaries

When you completely lose the ability to move and communicate easily at birth, the future seems uncertain. But not for 17-year-old Vyom Vishalbhai Soni. Not only does Vyom have remarkable achievements in art to his credit, he has sold his paintings at public exhibitions for three consecutive years. The talented youngster is a recognized artist whose work inspires thousands.

A Different Beginning

Vyom was born with Cerebral Palsy and intellectual disability. From early childhood, movement, coordination, and communication didn’t come easily to him. Simple everyday activities required help and patience. “I did not know how to help him in the beginning. We consulted doctors and therapists, but I was overwhelmed. Then we found BPA,” says his mother with emotion in her voice. “They gave us hope and a plan.” Vyom’s family enrolled him at the Blind People’s Association (BPA) in Ahmedabad, where a comprehensive rehabilitation program began. Through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, special education, and speech therapy, Vyom slowly started improving his motor skills and communication.

The Paintbrush Changes Everything

During therapy sessions, something unexpected happened. Vyom picked up colors and started painting. What began as an activity for hand-eye coordination soon revealed itself as genuine artistic talent.
“Art became his language,” his mother recalls. “He could express through colors what he couldn’t say in words. His paintings had emotions, stories, and depth.” With encouragement from his therapists and family, Vyom began participating in painting competitions. And he started winning.Over the years, Vyom has won multiple painting competitions across various platforms, earning certificates and awards that now fill his family’s home.

When Art Meets Recognition

But the real turning point came three years ago. Vyom’s paintings were not just being appreciated—they were being sold. For the past three consecutive years, his artwork has been exhibited and sold at public events and exhibitions. People don’t buy his paintings out of sympathy. They buy them because they’re beautiful, meaningful, and worth owning. “When someone paid money for his painting the first time, I cried,” says his mother. “It meant his work had real value. He wasn’t just a special child creating art—he was an artist.” Vyom’s talent has also opened doors to meet remarkable people. He has met the Deputy Chief Minister of India, distinguished guests, and well-known television personalities at various exhibitions. These moments have given him immense confidence.

The Woman Behind the Artist

Behind every stroke of Vyom’s brush is his mother’s unwavering support. She has attended every therapy session, every training program, every exhibition. “My mother is my strength,” Vyom communicates through gestures and limited words during interactions. His mother translates with a smile, “He says I push him too much sometimes, but he knows I believe in him.” She accompanies him to all his painting sessions and exhibitions. Her consistent involvement has been crucial to his emotional and creative development.

Life as a Young Artist

At 17, Vyom continues his therapy and special education, but painting remains his passion and identity. He practices regularly, experimenting with colors and themes. “He can sit with his paintings for hours. That focus, that patience—it’s his superpower,” his mother says proudly. While Vyom still needs support in daily activities and communication, his achievements in art show what’s possible when abilities are nurtured in the right environment.

Looking Ahead

Vyom’s immediate plans? More exhibitions, more art, more recognition. “I want to see his work in galleries across Gujarat. Why not across India?” his mother says with determination. “He has so much to offer. The world just needs to see it.” Vyom’s journey is a powerful reminder that disability does not define potential. With the right support, recognition, and opportunities, every individual can contribute something beautiful to the world.
