For the empowerment of women with disabilities, it is essential to involve them in income generation activities. Their financial independence makes them more confident and self-reliant. This self-reliance is the only true form of empowerment. BPA is aimed at empowering women with disabilities in rural areas financially, and providing them with a regular income. In collaboration with Usha International ltd, the USHA Classical and Satellite Silai School Program has been running in Gujarat for the last 8 years. Under this program 725 women with disabilities have been engaged in Tailoring and Cutting teaching and income generation through stitching work. These women with disabilities act as a master trainer to train other women and girls in their village. These women also stitch designer dresses for Usha International Ltd after receiving training under Usha International’s Fashion Label Project.
During the year 2020-2021, more 20 women with disabilities from South Gujarat joined this movement as a master trainers, and 20 women with disabilities from Central Gujarat joined as Satellite school learners. The 10 women with disabilities from Tribal Dang district and 10 women with disabilities from Valsad District were given a training for 9 days, and provided Silai machine to start own business and for giving a training to other women and girls in their respective village.
These trained women with disabilities stitched masks in the pandemic time, and earned the livelihood and provided a big support to the family, and community.
