  • 01-Feb-2011 4 March 2011: Mr. Lavingiya Niravkumar D, MSW student of Shri Adarsh M.S.W College, Botad, Gujarat was given the responsibility of understanding the working of the State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC) of the National Trust, a statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India New Delhi. The BPA Acts as the SNAC and Nirav helped in filling forms of Niramaya, a Health Insurance Scheme for the welfare of persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities. He also interacted with parents and disabled persons as part of his placement.

  • 15-Apr-2019 Vocational and Professional Training – Blind People’s Association (BPA), GujaratThe Blind People’s Association (BPA) has a number of vocational training programmes that are designed to lead to employment on completion of training. The courses are recognized by the Government and are offered to persons with blindness, locomotor disability, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, mental retardation and mental illness are given admission here. Its mission is to provide comprehensive rehabilitation to persons with disabilities through integrated education, vocational training, employment, and community-based rehabilitation.Training is imparted in simulated industrial settings in light engineering, commercial design, stationery, tailoring, composing, printing, and book-binding to 155 people with disabilities. They are given stipend and on the job training in simulated industrial settings. BPA also makes furniture - household and office, does modern printing on offset machine for the government and private customers.An ITI is run on same pattern as that for non-disabled persons. One-year training is provided in Data Preparation & Computer Software (D.P.C.S.), Computer Programming, Desk Top Publishing Trade (D.T.P.), Stenography English Trade, Offset Printing Trade, Telephone Operator-cum-Receptionist, Cutting & Tailoring and Hair & Skin Care Centre. Their Kaushalyavardhak Kendra (KVK) runs three months skill training in Plumbing, Scientific Massage, and Computer Fundamentals. The trainees write the examinations conducted by the Government which issues certificates to the successful candidates.Training is given to 50 persons with multiple disabilities in the making of diyas, candles, paper bags and plates, tie and dye, dupattas and gift articles. This is the first time that KVK has given certificates to persons with intellectual and multiple disabilities.The key factors for success of BPA’s vocational training are its emphasis on developing self-reliance, and financial independence as part of the rehabilitation. In addition to aid and training, BPA’s philosophy of empowering the disabled has involved enabling them to handle their affairs independently, helping them realize their capabilities so as to lead a life of economic self-reliance and dignity. Extracted from: Blind People’s Association (2017).  Annual Report 2016-17.
